Scotland - Fife to Edinburgh

The canal boat goes into the Falkirk Wheel (top left photo) from the lower canal and it rotates, water and all, until it is level with the top canal. The boat then motors out onto the canal after the water levels are adjusted slightly. The two gondolas filled with water are the same weight so gravity helps to rotate the wheel meaning it uses very little power to operate.
